Coniston Old Man attempt

This year I promised myself I was going to get up on the Lake District fells more, like I used too before I was cursed with ME/CFS. At times, I feel like I’m exhausting all my options with Landscape Photography in the Lake District. Standing in popular spots and hoping for inspiring weather. I feel I’m missing out on the essence of the Lake District. The Lakeland Fells.

I find it extremely challenging energy wise to safely get myself off the beaten track and up there so to speak. Today, I was determined to give it a go and just head out and see what I could achieve. Perhaps my confidence was high after my Birthday walk around Buttermere. However lately I have really been struggling energy wise. It is extremely frustrating. Soul destroying.

I headed up to the Car Park at the foot of Coniston Old Man, had lunch, charged ourselves up for a bit then set off. Some days I can walk a good few miles on the flat, however as soon as I come to a hill I struggle. General fitness I’m sure, I’m also 10kg heavier than I’d like at 94kg, I find it very difficult to exercise regular enough to burn off weight and also I can eat for energy just to get through a day of being housebound and awake. I’m due to see a Nutritionist next month to help put together a plan for eating for maximum energy but not at the cost of weight gain if that is at all possible. Regards weight, I feel I did well last year losing about 8kg. However I need to lose at least another 10kg, as way fo reference, I was 78kg before I got ME/CFS. At my peak weight I was just over 100kg so over 20% additional weight to carry about. Anti Depressants had a lot to do with this weight gain, well everything to be honest, I can see it on my FitBit app from the three occasions I’ve been taking them since I became unwell in 2013 my weight just shot up uncontrolabley. Not sustainable.

Anyway back to today and as predicted I didn’t get very far. I tried though and I’ll keep trying….
