The River Brathay and Elterwater is a great location for a short walk, taking in the fine views over the river and over Elterwater towards the Langdale Pikes. The paths in this area have all been renewed recently so gettign about is really straightforward.
You can park at Kettlewell car park and the walk starts just over the road with a small gap in the drystone wall. Heading through down the path and through the trees you pick up the river where you can go left to Skelwith Force or right up to Elterwater.
The area immediately at this junction has a slow moving section of the river Brathay and is often still and mirrorlike. There is an interesting group of trees on a slightly raised section of land over the river that make a great feature over the water.
On a later Autumn afternoon I arrived as the mist was descending from the Langdale Valley as the last light of the day was disappearing behind the Langdale Pikes.
One of the good things about heading to locations like these in the quieter months is you often have them to yourself at the start and end of the day and that was the case here. It was quite erie in the Silence with the Mist descending. Just me and the local Wildlife.
