A Misty Morning on Coniston

Coniston has many small wooden Jetties many of them privately owned and some accessible by the public where the Coniston Gondola picks up and drops off passengers. I first noticed this jetty when I took a ride on the Steam Gondola, you can see that post here.

Heading out in the early morning is always a gamble as its usually dark when you leave so you don’t really know what to expect by the time you arrive at the location. On this particular morning I could see Coniston was covered in Mist as I came into Coniston from Hawkshead Hill.

The top half of the Lake was clear but the bottom half where this location is was still covered in Mist.

I was right on the transition between clear and Mist. Things were looking good, it had to lift eventually and I was hoping to capture a those moments in my photography.

In positon at the Jetty, as you can see it was shrouded in Mist. I was in for a wait.

The good thing about being early to a location is you have time to setup and wander about before the few moments of the best conditions. I had a look around. Here is the Jetty from a little further up the shore.

In the opposite direction things were looking pretty good further up the Lake.

Some Misty Morning scenes over Coniston.

Back at the Jetty things weren’t changing all that much, in fact the mist got thicker, will this ever change…

I was hoping to catch the moment the sun burst through and the view appeared in front of me.

Here it goes…

As the sun burned the Mist away I was fortunate to be set up and in position to capture this beautiful scene over Coniston.

My usual obscure Jetty composition.

A wider view of the location.

This is the kind of image I had in my mind for this monring.

Perfect. Even better than I had imagined.

Whilst I was capturing the best of the conditions after been stood around of rover an hour a couple with a small child arrived and launched a canoe right beside me and the Jetty.

The last of the Morning Mist further up the Coniston.

All clear now.

A great morning for a paddle.

I had a great morning at Coniston and I’m glad I arrived in plenty of time to capture the transition between thick fog and mist to a beautiful Autumn morning. Thanks for looking. You can see more of my Coniston Landscape Prints here
