Grasmere Panoramic view on a misty morning

Grasmere Dawn

With Autumn officially here and in the hope of some misty mornings with a change in colour from green to brown I have been planning to add to my Lake District Landscape Photography collection with some atmospheric scenes over Grasmere and around the surrounding Woodland. The weather wasn’t looking particularly promising early on but the thought of what might be spurred me on.

Penny Rock Woods Stream

Penny Rock Woods at the bottom of Grasmere is a great location for Autumnal Images and I have had success here before on a Misty Morning. Heading through the Woods I wasn’t as fortunate to experience the conditions you can expect given Grasmere is so close and the mist can cover the woodland.

Making my way through the woods you can see the colours are beginning to turn but probably need another couple of weeks.

I hope to capture this area in Golden Brown in the coming weeks.

Penny Roack Woods - Grasmere

The last time I stood here the Mist was evaporating around me as the Sun Burst through the trees. Unfortunately my big camera battery had run out but I managed to capture it on my iPhone.

Making my way towards Grasmere I could see there wasn’t much chance of the sun burning through the clouds anytime soon, however I’m more than happy to spend some time just taking in the location and looking for future shots given the right conditions. I’m also a great believer in making the most of what you are presented with. It’s a simple case of changing your perception of what to expect. There are lots of opportunities to make images you can be proud of and it is days like today that help to develop that ability.

Grasmere Panoramic view on a misty morning

A pretty flat morning over Grasmere but some low cloud over the surrounding fells made for a nice backdrop. Allan Bank sitting in its magnificent position in the centre of the landscape.

Reflected trees over GrasmereIn a few more weeks these fine trees should be alive with Autumnal colours. On a calm morning like this with a little warming light on a morning this could make a great scene.

Reflections on Grasmere

You can enjoy the previous view from this well positioned seat next to the small weir at the southern end of Grasmere.

Using my zoom lens to pick out some detail over Grasmere. I spotted a couple of Herons in this area and tracked them for a while watching them Fish.
