Ullswater Prints from the Lake District

Ullswater View

One of my favourite places on Ullswater is this view below. I have visited here many times since 2004. This 360 degree interactive view shows you the complete scene and the images below some of my favourite photographs from that location.

Black and white photo of a tree on Ullswater

This is the first photo I took of this location that is worth sharing. It was taken on my second visit to this spot. The first visit was the day before and the weather was awful. I took various shots but nothing to be excited about. When I returned home I realised I’d lost the spirit level off my camera. This annoyed me so I decided to go again the next day to see if I could find it. I didn’t find it but I got this shot above instead, which is far more valuable to me now than the £20 hot shoe spirit level. Click on the image to see more info on prints available of this photo.

Long exposure photography of Ullswater

The photo above was taken a few years after the original, by now I’d gained interest in long exposure photography and this shot above uses a series of photographic filters to reduce the light entering the camera, this allows for a longer shutter time and creates the blurred water you see here. A relatively flat day, not as dramatic a sky as in the original but that wasn’t the aim of this shot. I subsequently tinted a series of these shots to Black and White and Sepia too. Which style do you prefer best? Let me know in the comments below.

Notice the movement of the long grass in the foreground as the shot is captured.

A slightly different angle on the scene; my aim was to have the shore line in the middle of the composition. The rough texture of the beach opposed to the silky smooth surface of the water and the tree line mirroring the edge of the opposite fells.
