Following my previous visit to Thirlmere a couple of weeks earlier I had convinced Lewis to come with me this time in the hope of some Island exploration.

iPhone shot approaching Thirlmere.

He was so excited as he saw this. It took a while for him to realise there should be water there.
I realised after my last shoot I hadn’t shown the true extent of the drought here on Thirlmere. This shot above shows the exposed lake bed and the real extent of the lack of rain. Here is Deergarth How Island or Lewis Island as it shall now be know in our family after a young explorer conquered the Island.

I’m really drawn to the contrast between warming light and the tones in the foreground in this area.

A behind and underneath shot of the previous image taken. Ha

An Island Wilderness. Lewis Island.

On Lewis Island looking out for pirates….

A beautiful scene over Thirlmere and no pirates in sight.

Governor of Lewis Island.

Looking North up Thirlmere.

From the Island looking over towards Helvellyn and Lower Man, with my Little Man.

Spot the disposable barbecue left my some considerate fool.

A rock Pool on the Island. I was hoping to try and get the reflection of Lower Man in the pool but the angles wouldn’t work.

My Canon 5D Mk3 capturing the shot above.

Lewis assessing my composition.

Yeah, that’s alright Dad… Thanks Son.

Lewis’ shot of my setup.

Keeping the reflection of Lower Man unbroken in the water.
One of my family album… I should have recorded a video of my trying to get in position before the self timer went off.

The light was fading fast at this point.

Lewis was pleased with conquering his first Island at age 4.

Looking North, Blencathra in the Distance.

Lewis practising his stone skimming.

As seen with my iPhone.

Cockrigg Crags.

Deergarth How Island not an Island for now.
As we were packing up to leave I heard something moving towards us in the woods. It sounded big, I was hoping it was the Deer I saw on my last visit. As it got close it sounded too big for a Deer. Then all 6’6″ of him appeared. My good friend Colin Bell. Who else would be down here at Thirlmere at this time of night.

Dusk over Thirlmere as we chatted with Colin

Thanks to Colin for taking this shot of Lewis and I.
