In an attempt to shoot more Landscapes at the start of the day I had planned to head up to Keswick but on the way things weren’t improving weather wise, its was pretty dull and very overcast. I decided to stop at Wythburn Church as its a place Ive always wanted to visit but have never made the time.

Inside the small Church, it was before 8am. (iPhone Shot)

Fascinating little building. (iPhone Shot)
I decided to head on to Thirlmere and by total coincidence I bumped into Colin Bell in the Car Park, we had a wander down to the waters edge. I made this panoramic shot by stitching several images together.
A long exposure shot over Thirlmere, Wythburn Church just visible through the trees.

Catching up with Colin taking in the view. (iPhone Shot)
Looking down the Lake it seems a little brighter up North, maybe if I’d of carried on to Keswick I’d have seen different conditions?

Experimenting with exposure and White Balance reveals two different versions of similar scenes. Above and Below.
A stitched Panoramic Image looking over Thirlmere.
A single frame of the large Panoramic above. I was drawn to the warmth of the grass against the cool water.
Another single frame of the Panorama.
A long exposure shot looking up Thirlmere.
A slight glow in the sky above Little Man and Helvellyn.
It’s pretty wild in places around the West side of Thirlmere.
I selected these rocks and the line of the shore as foreground interest to lead the eye into this image.
Again in Portrait format.
Black Rock.

The same scene as seen with my iPhone. Looks a little different.
Looking North up Thirlmere.

An iPhone version of the previous shot.
Probably my favourite image of this shoot. Retaining the highlights in the sky and the Polarising filter revealing the rocks below the water.
Heading back to the car…
The slippy walkway through the grass.

An iPhone shot of the terrain.

Back at the car park – An interesting little barn over the road, Colin has a fabulous image of this shrouded in Mist. No such look today. Everyday can’t be a glorious day but a day with Landscape Photography is a glorious day, regardless of the conditions. You just have to work with what you have, what you’re presented with and make the best of it. Like Life hey.
