If I was to list the things I want as a Landscape Photographer it would be a very short list. There would be no equipment on that list, not even a world famous landmark or beauty spot. For me what I want is good light. It’s often hard to describe what I mean by that. If words fail me, take a look at these photographs I captured on Crosby Beach and this is exactly what I mean. Amazingly warm light. Dramatic moody skies. I think the two come together. The light contrasting the dark. The sun contrasting the rain and for me this is what I chase. What I truly want.
This is for me the best of the best. The only other variables are time, health and location. Health so you can be there, be ready, be outside. Light like this isn’t good from indoors. It leads to frustration. Time, so you can make the best image you can because when this has gone I miss it. If you follow my blog you’ll see just how many times I’ve been here, this is the best it has been light wise. It’s not a daily thing, it happens on the edge of what normal people may call bad weather. Location, is irrelevant as I believe a good photograph can be made anywhere if you have the skill. However, if all three things come together then there is no finer feeling in Landscape Photography for me.
When it all comes together, all the shoots of practise come to a head, you have a few moments to capture this amazing moment forever. I love that. The chase, the anticipation. I love these images and while they are of a scene I’m failure with day in day out just look at how the added element of drama and light really transform a scene into something really magical.
