Allan Bank in Grasmere is one of our favourite family locations in the Lake District. Not only is it a wonderful house in a beautiful setting, it’s also a great location to inspire and enthuse visitors of all ages. My friend Chris Shaw works for the National Trust at Allan Bank. Having seen one of her Tweets about the pumpkin Trial around the grounds we decided to take the kids along and have a wander about the grounds. These photos from my iPhone show the grounds and the many Pumpkins the kids had to find and draw. They loved it …….

The Centre of Grasmere always a fine display of Autumn Colours.

Heading up the drive to Allan Bank. More of a road.

Looking over Grasmere and Loughrigg from the Garden

Ah the boys improvising and drawing one of the many Pumpkins spotted.

A fine-looking thing it is too.

We decided to have an extended walk around the woods while we were here.

One of the steepest sections of the walk

This short tunnel adding some drama for the boys.

Inside the tunnel with spooky spider webs and pumpkins

Beware indeed.

The beautiful outbuilding full of character and crying out for renovation.

Inside the main house, drawings submitted and time for some Artistic Freedom.

Visitors are encouraged to draw the view.
