I promised myself last summer when I was last at Wastwater for Landscape Photography I’d revisit this location and try to capture the setting sun illuminating the famous Wastwater Screes. Last Summer I was treated to amazing evening of beautiful light. However the sun sets in a different location during the summer and this prevents the screes from fully illuminating in my opinion. Now it’s Autumn I was hopeful of good conditions and to be in the right place at the right time as is so important in Landscape Photography here in the Lake District.
Here’s how I got on…

The famous Wastwater Screes. Beautiful light bringing out the rugged texture of the scree.

This is what Ive wanted for so many years. A beautiful sweeping panorama over Wastwater with the Screes illuminated.

The classic view over Wastwater to Yewbarrow, Great Gable and Lingmell.

World Famous Wastwater Screes. The best time to view this scene is in the last hour of the day.

This is perhaps one of my personal favourite Landscape Photographs I’ve taken. I’ve wanted this image for so long now.

Beautiful light, I noticed Great Gable was turning purple as the sun set lower and lower. I changed lenses to take a closer look…

Great Gable truly is GREAT. would you look at that.

After years of waiting and wanting I am over the moon with what I witnessed and captured here at Wastwater today. A truly magnificent shoot and one that I won’t forget.
