Autumn Sunset on Holme Fell in the Lake District

Holme Fell Autumn Evening Shoot

Another visit to Holme Fell this afternoon with the hope of capturing some of these beautiful autumn colours we are seeing in the Lake District at the moment. Autumn really is a great time for Landscape Photography especially when you have views like that offered from Holme Fell.

I had no particular agenda this afternoon, just give myself enough time to have a wander around and see what I see.

I park at Hodge Close when visiting Holme Fell and this afternoon it looks to have been taken over by a film crew. There were loads of people setting up various rigs and lights. Aparently it’s all for a Netflix production. The Witcher series 2.

As I made my way up the side of Holme Fell I came across a couple who were studying a map. “Are you lost” I asked. They were heading back to Tarn Hows but gave up on crossing Holme Fell as it’s unbearable in places. Just a huge bog. I gave them alternative directions and felt I’d done a good deed for the day.

I made several low level shots from Holme Fell and unfortunately the light didn’t look to be making an appearance tonight. Just one shaft of light is all I wanted. Nothing.

I decided rather than give up I’ll continue towards a part of Holme Fell I’ve not visited before so at least if these images don’t come to anything I’ve increased my knowledge of this place and can leave with something.

I made my way up to the summit of Holme Fell where I met another photographer. Simon Whitworth. We chatted for a while as the last of the light finally broke through and illuminated the distant Fells. Well worth the effort of walking up here and certainly glad I didn’t give up and head home earlier.

Simon recognised me from you YouTube channel and was a truly delightful guy. Complimenting me on my style of YouTube. He clearly had a lot of knowledge about my shoots and even suggested he’d bought a tilt shift lens on the back of watching my vlogs. Upon reflection this has meant a lot to me. I was starting to think I’d had my day on YouTube. That my audience had lost interest as I’ve not seen the growth or engagement I had a few weeks ago. My last few video of which I feel were my absolute best have not at all been popular.

I tired making a vlog this evening but I wasn’t feeling it. In hindsight I should have stuck it out and I should perceive with YouTube. If anything I enjoy putting them together and feel they are a great way of documenting my time. I can imagine in years to come looking back on these videos will be quite a reminder. If anything I find them good to showcase images. As typically I don’t post my big camera photos anywhere except here on my blog. Vlogs are a lot easier to engage with. Just press play and relax.

Here are a series of images I made this afternoon on Holme Fell.

As always all of these landscape photographs are available as gallery quality framed prints. Contact me for details.
