Autumn Wet woodland Shoot

It was a drizzly damp day today here in the Lake District, however these conditions don’t deter me from heading out with my camera, especially to make autumnal woodland images. Wet weather can in fact make colours more vibrant, this can be an advantage in woodland setting.

I made the following images on a short walk through my local woodland at Skelwith Fold. As always all of these Landscape Photographs are available as gallery quality framed prints. Lake District Autumn Woodland Scene

I briefly went out this morning before setting off for Ullswater that will feature in my next blog. I felt this image deserved its own post rather than be bolted on to a more in depth post about a different area.

As I went out for a short walk this morning this particular scene caught my eye so I made 2 shots of it. This post features both of those images which are, in fact, identical, just cropped differently.

I am quite drawn to woodland scenes like this, I find they make interesting, intricate Landscape Prints, especially with soft light and the glorious colours of Autumn.

Another day and I keep wishing these winds would stop blowing leaves off the trees at this rate. It looks like it’s raining yellow silver Birch leaves at times. Better make the most of it as once they’re gone, they are a long time returning.

Another shoot in the Autumnal woodland here at Skelwith Fold this afternoon and revisiting a scene in an earlier blog. The addition of low, warm light makes such a huge difference to Autumnal Landscape Photography. Just lifting the whole scene.

Park Fell Family Walk

Today I revisited Park Fell above Skelwith Fold for a quick Autumn walk. It was an absolutely glorious day today, sunny and warm with beautiful clear views in all directions. It makes me so grateful for days like today. Not only for the weather but also for the chance to do this with my children. I’ve noticed it’s becoming a lot harder to convince them to come out with their dad these days. Especially my eldest son Thomas. I guess a 15 year old boy had a lot more exciting things vying for his attention these days. I was glad to have spent time with both my sons today and I hope on some level, days like today stay with them forever.

For such a short walk you are rewarded with excellent views all around. From looking over Windermere to Waterhead and Ambleside to the River Brathay and Elterwater towards the Langdale Fells and over to the West to Weatherlam and Crinkle Crags. On days like today the Lake District Landscape really is truly beautiful. It’s no wonder so many people fall in love with the Lakes. Days like today are wonderful.

Skelwith Fold Early Autumn Colours

Is it technically early Autumn? I guess I measure autumn by the colours in the trees and not by the calendar. What I can see here at Skelwith Fold in the Lake District is a mixture of Autumnal changes. Some trees have totally lost their leaves already. Some haven’t even started to turn while others are half in and half out of summer to autumn foliage. It’s really a mixture of colours and for a few moments this afternoon I captured this scene a moments walk from my front door.

Each year I tend to revisit the same locations and see how they change as autumn comes and eventually turns into winter. In Capture Lakeland Volume 2 I documented a small Fern on the side of an old Quarry in Borrowdale and in fact enjoyed that process of revisiting. Maybe I’ll do the same with this scene here.

I’m hoping to see as much of the Lake District as I can this autumn so here’s hoping the weather will be kind, my energy levels will allow me the privilege of sticking at it and the frost and wind stay away just long enough to keep the leaves on their trees as they begin to and indeed change.

The next 3-4 weeks will be the highlight of my photographic year and it is this period of time that I wait all year for. Here’s hoping for a positive and fruitful Autumn here in the Lake District.
