Park Fell Family Walk

James — Sun, 11 Oct 2020 10:31:38 +0000

Today I revisited Park Fell above Skelwith Fold for a quick Autumn walk. It was an absolutely glorious day today, sunny and warm with beautiful clear views in all directions. It makes me so grateful for days like today. Not only for the weather but also for the chance to do this with my children. I’ve noticed it’s becoming a lot harder to convince them to come out with their dad these days. Especially my eldest son Thomas. I guess a 15 year old boy had a lot more exciting things vying for his attention these days. I was glad to have spent time with both my sons today and I hope on some level, days like today stay with them forever.

For such a short walk you are rewarded with excellent views all around. From looking over Windermere to Waterhead and Ambleside to the River Brathay and Elterwater towards the Langdale Fells and over to the West to Weatherlam and Crinkle Crags. On days like today the Lake District Landscape really is truly beautiful. It’s no wonder so many people fall in love with the Lakes. Days like today are wonderful.

You can see more of my Landscape Photography from around Skelwith Fold here and my current collection of Landscape Photography from around Elterwater and the Rover Brathay here.

As always I snap away with my phone as I walk, little scenes that catch my eye. A mobile phone camera is a great tool to help us Landscape Photographers compose scenes. I thought Id share a selection of my favourite phone photos from todays walk. I am also offering these as framed prints. Contact me for details…

River Brathay Misty Morning Shoot

James — Fri, 18 Sep 2020 08:51:42 +0000

One of my biggest challenges as a Landscape Photographer is my ability to get out for sunrise shoots. Arguably, sunrise and the hour or so before and after are the best times of day for atmospheric landscape photographs here in the Lake District. Historically, I have favoured the warm light of sunset as opposed to the soft light of sunrise. However, throw in some mist and the early autumn colours and you really do have a recipe for a great landscape photography shoot.

Mist is the Landscape Photographers friend. It allows us to capture images with atmosphere and that much needed separation between interesting foreground elements and what may otherwise be a distracting background.

This morning I made the short drive to the River Brathay just below Elterwater, upon arrival the mist was extremely thick and almost made it difficult to see anything. However, this is the best situation to be in, as when it starts to evaporate the Landscape and indeed images present themselves.

This morning I had absolutely no idea what I was going to capture let alone see. The images I’ve made here are totally spontaneous and I love that. Being able to react quickly and shoot away at various little scenes that catch my eye is really enjoyable to me.

Here is a series of images made in a very short timeframe, an exciting half hour or so watching the Landscape reappear and present me with opportunities to capture this wonderful place.

Park Fell Summer Landscape Photography Shoot

James — Mon, 24 Aug 2020 12:29:16 +0000

I returned to Park Fell again this afternoon, this time with my big camera so I could capture some of this wonderful summer weather we are having here in the Lake District. While the middle of the say is not usually my preferred time fo day for Landscape Photography here in the Lake District you certainly can’t beat the laid back nature of not chasing the light and rushing around. taking my time and pausing to take in the wonderful views down over Elterwater, the River Brathay, and the wonderful Langdale Pikes and surrounding Fells.

I also made a vlog of this shoot so please feel free to watch that embedded into this post below.

You can see more of my Landscape Photography Prints that include Elterwater here and my collection of prints that feature the Langdale Pikes here.
