Autumn Glory at Grasmere

Grasmere is one of my favourite locations in the Lake District. In fact, I’d live there if I could. It is such a beautiful place. Especially the Southern shore and around Penny Rock woods. Autumn is such a special time her win the Lake District and for Landscape Photography this is it, the jewel in the crown of my year. Today was a good day for Landscape Photography. A day of calm conditions and wonderful colour. Below are a series of images showcasing this wonderful pocket of the Lake District. I hope you enjoy them.

Quite often when I’m making my images I see in different shapes. Below is a good example of how the same images can be formatted differently to give a different look and feel. Click on the images to take a closer look.

Skelwith Fold Early Autumn Colours

Is it technically early Autumn? I guess I measure autumn by the colours in the trees and not by the calendar. What I can see here at Skelwith Fold in the Lake District is a mixture of Autumnal changes. Some trees have totally lost their leaves already. Some haven’t even started to turn while others are half in and half out of summer to autumn foliage. It’s really a mixture of colours and for a few moments this afternoon I captured this scene a moments walk from my front door.

Each year I tend to revisit the same locations and see how they change as autumn comes and eventually turns into winter. In Capture Lakeland Volume 2 I documented a small Fern on the side of an old Quarry in Borrowdale and in fact enjoyed that process of revisiting. Maybe I’ll do the same with this scene here.

I’m hoping to see as much of the Lake District as I can this autumn so here’s hoping the weather will be kind, my energy levels will allow me the privilege of sticking at it and the frost and wind stay away just long enough to keep the leaves on their trees as they begin to and indeed change.

The next 3-4 weeks will be the highlight of my photographic year and it is this period of time that I wait all year for. Here’s hoping for a positive and fruitful Autumn here in the Lake District.

Thirlmere Autumn Explosion

Crummock Water Autumn Landscape

It seems like a very long time since I visited Crummock Water in the North West Lake District. It’s not local to my base around Ambleside but it’s well worth making the effort to visit. I’ve been looking forward to heading to Crummock Water all year to hopefully capture Autumn in this wonderful place. I find Crummock Water a lot quieter than the more centrally based parts of the Lake District and that’s a good thing for me. I was last up this way when I visited Rannerdale Bluebells back in Spring but Bluebells cannot compete with Autumn Glory. Derwentwater Early Autumn Shoot

This morning I hoped to kick off my Autumn shoots/vlogs with a spectacular morning over Derwentwater. I recall witnessing great light here last year although a bit later in the year so set off hoping for more of the same. As is often the way with Landscape Photography we can only control ourselves and are to a degree at the mercy of the elements. Today was a rather flat and dull morning but that was ok. It gave me a chance to make a new vlog for my YouTube channel and practice Landscape Photography in a beautiful location.

Autumn in Borrowdale

As autumn is well and truly upon us now here in the Lake District it is the time of year to make the most of the changing colours. This year I want invest a bit more time in the Borrowdale Valley and so I spent an hour or so this afternoon having a little wander around and setting myself up for what I hope will be an enjoyable Autumn of Landscape Photography here in the Lake District.

Todays trip out was to get a feel for things and build up a picture in my mind of whats happening where Autumn wise. There is still a lot of green around not eh tress but the ferns are mostly a golden brown now. I hope things turn gently and we don’t get a frost and some wind or it’ll all be over too soon….
