As the country is gripped by cold weather there was a wonderful opportunity to head out into the Lake District last Sunday. Deep snow and brilliant blue skies made for wonderful photo opportunities. Langdale is a favourite location of mine as its relatively easy to access from the South Lakes. However deep snow and steep untreated roads made for an interesting challenge. This video below shows the ascent up toward Blea Tarn from the Hardnott Pass road. What an experience.

ARVE Error: need id and provider

Once up at Blea Tarn it was clear to see we were the first visitors of the day, only animal tracks broke the perfect covering of deep snow.

Two kids a 4×4 driver and a photographer soon spoil the fresh snow and leave tracks of our own.

Further up the road looking into Mickleden, The Band below Bowfell and The Langdale Pikes, the foreground rock an sheep feeder gives you an idea of the snows depth at this point.

The ascent into Langdale from this point is bad enough on a fine day with tight hairpin bends and a 25% descent but add a deep covering of snow and see the video below for a taste of what it was like.

ARVE Error: need id and provider

These pictures are a small selection of ones taken on my recent visit to Langdale. In the coming days more will be made available for sale via www.jamesbellphotography.co.uk.
