Buttermere

Buttermere Tree

A lone Birch tree on the northern shore of Buttermere. A popular scene you may come across when browsing Lake District Pictures. It seems to represent an iconic view and a great challenge for the photographer. How do you compose the scene and are you lucky or persistent enough to get the weather on your side. Whatever approach is taken there is no denying this is a magnificent place and the view here is still as relaxing and inspiring to me as the day I took this picture. The quietness, stillness and scale of the scene is something to become immersed in. The late setting winter sun casts warming rays over Haystacks and onto the west side of Fleetwith Pike.
